Over the past few years, Rebel Wilson has become a global sensation, with roles ranging from support in Pitch Perfect to lead in Isn’t It Romantic. Throughout this time, Wilson has exuded confidence and wit that’s somewhat unrivaled in the industry.
Because of that, she’s been able to land herself a significant amount of roles, as well as capture a large audience. With that, the Australian born actress has gotten increasingly more commercial and critical success. As she’s noted herself, this extreme shyness bordered on a social disorder. This was something that Wilson’s mother noticed early on; after realizing that it was a problem, she decided to do something about it.
Without telling her, she enrolled Rebel Wilson into acting classes, only letting her know once they were outside the first lesson. However, Wilson decided to give it a chance and began the classes.
Around the same time, she also realized that personality traits could become increasingly more difficult to get rid of as we age. With that in mind, she decided to boost her confidence levels even further, before she deemed it was too late. As such, she began looking for other ways to help with her confidence on top of her acting classes. This was when she was introduced to a debate club, which she quickly joined and fell in love with.
The debate club also proved to be an effective way to help with her confidence, as not only was she making more friends, but she was learning how to speak in front of a large audience. While it would take time, Rebel Wilson’s confidence levels soon began to soar, and she was easily making friends.
Another major fact in this was her family, whom Rebel Wilson has noted always had a large sense of humor; she’s claimed that her siblings don’t find her funny and that they believe they’re the funny ones.
Because of this, however, Wilson was also developing her own sense of humor alongside her confidence levels. Between her humor and her growing acting talents, she decided to try to make a career in acting, which eventually led to roles in a few notable television shows and movies.
However, Rebel Wilson soon realized that to make a proper career in acting, she would need to move to Los Angeles. It was here that she received the role of Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect, which also helped highlight her deadpan humor. Since then, Rebel Wilson has gone on to receive commercial and critical acclaim around the world.
