Betsy DeVos Aims To Take On Washington D.C.

The 2016 Presidential Election is going to go down in the history books as one of the most important election seasons in the history of the United States of America. The prevailing opinion of the election was that it gave conservatives the chance to rally around an outsider candidate, someone who wasn’t beholden to the same old corruption that they had known in prior administrations. True to his word, newly minted President Trump decided to bring in outsiders in order to staff his Cabinet. Of his outsider selections, the nomination and corresponding confirmation of Betsy DeVos looks to be one of the most important picks that he had made. Betsy DeVos was tabbed for the Secretary of Education position and she is going to use that spot in order to bring some much needed change to the rest of the political world.

Betsy DeVos is as much of an outsider as you are going to possibly find in the United States government. Why is that? Well, for starters, Betsy DeVos has never worked in the government before. She has spent her entire adult life as a private citizen, using her private sway as a GOP donor in order to try and render the kind of change that she believes in. Betsy DeVos, along with her husband Dick DeVos, have been quiet players in the political world for a long time, but they got there by sticking to their values and never compromising for the sake of their party or for public acceptance. That doesn’t sound at all like a modern politician, does it?

Inside of Washington D.C.’s halls, many people expected DeVos to calm down and fall in line with the Trump Administration’s various demands. Despite this expectation, DeVos has continued to speak her mind even when it runs counter to the political establishment. While she surely grates on her political companions, her brash ability to cut to the quick is something that American voters have firmly wanted for a long, long time.

In the Department of Education, Betsy DeVos is going to be focused on changing the entire way we look at the role of government in education. Betsy DeVos echoes the writings of Milton Friedman with her core philosophy surrounding school choice. DeVos believes that government funding for education should be spread evenly throughout the entire field and include budgeting for private institutions, religious schools and even home-schooled children. At the end of the day, Betsy DeVos believes in the right for a parent to choose how their child gets educated while growing up and this is a huge hit among conservatives. Betsy DeVos is finally giving conservatives something to rally around from an outsider perspective and the early returns are clear: this is a great thing.
